Charles Brining Obituary

Charles Andrew Brining, 92, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly following a fall at home in Lumberton. He leaves his wife of 70 years, Emma (nee Wood) Brining; his daughters, Kathleen Taubel (Walter), BetteAnn Burr (Robert), and Patricia Brining (Richard); his son-in-law Donald McLewin (Laura); his six grandchildren, Charles McLewin (Dawn), Aimee Warrington (Keith), Teresa Ramos Gonzalez (Alex), Jason Taubel (LaToya), Griffin Brining and Dylan Brining; and six great-grandchildren, Megan, Zach, Gabi, Alex, Drew and Ellie. He was predeceased by his son, Charles Andrew Jr. and his daughter, Laura Elizabeth McLewin. Born in Jacksonville, NJ and raised in Florence, the son of George Dillon and Sarah Marshall (nee Randles) Brining, he was a lifelong resident of Burlington County. In recent years, he resided in Lumberton. Being fortunate to live a long, full life, he was predeceased by his parents, brother William, and sisters Laura, Catherine, Ruth and Emma. Mr. Brining proudly served with the United States Navy during World War II, where he was a Boatswain's Mate. He was decorated with several medals for his valiant service, and was especially humbled and honored as a Purple Heart recipient. Upon returning home from the War, he met his wife, Emma (affectionately referred to as Bette, "doll" or "Hun"), at a social gathering of mutual friends and, after a courtship of one month, eloped and was married on St. Patrick's Day in 1947 at a small courthouse in Elkton, Maryland. Mr. Brining followed in the footsteps of his father and brother, and worked for many years at the former Griffin Pipe Products/Amsted Industries in Florence. He worked tirelessly in this foundry environment, toiling daily in challenging conditions of intense heat, soot and physical obstacles that would test the fortitude of the strongest of men, and he had the reputation of those he worked alongside of, as being a tough, but fair, Foreman. Mr. Brining had a passion for his family and that was his primary focus. He enjoyed bantering with friends and family about current events and other topics -- challenges with his hearing often made these exchanges loud and lively. He enjoyed tinkering, reading and collecting coins for his grandchildren. He and his wife shared a lifelong friendship with former Florence residents, Jack and Aimee Pitman, and Charles and Jack's antics made for lots of treasured family lore. A viewing will be held from 8-9am Monday July 24, 2017 at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Funeral services will be held at 9am at the funeral home.
