Florence (nee Barton) Hamlett

An old Irish prayer reads; "May God give you, for every storm, a rainbow, for every tear a smile, for every care, a promise and a blessing in each trial." How terrible is it to love something that death can touch? It leaves a heartache no one can heal. But, the blessing is that love leaves those memories no one can steal. Florence R. Hamlett (nee Barton) was a proud Irish lass, a devoted mother and loving grandmother who held her faith dear. In the Lilt of Irish laughter you can hear the angels sing. They have waited so long, now they have their way. On Wednesday December 28, 2016 the road rose to meet her and with oh dem golden slippers Mrs. Hamlett went with the saints marching in from the Marcella Center in Burlington. The beginning of Florence's rainbow had glowed from South Philadelphia, "Mumtown USA" where she had graduated from J.W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School. She had been a resident of Burlington in her early years before spending over 20 years out west in Indiana, with her daughter and had recently returned to Burlington. Florence made a career in office work. She had worked in the Church office and at Area 10 Office on Aging in Ellettsville, IN. Florence was devoted to St. Jude and a dedicated parishioner to her Church. She served as Eucharistic Minister for many years and was an Oblate of St. Benedict. Mrs. Hamlett embraced her Irish heritage and had the opportunity to visit her homeland a number of times. At home she enjoyed classic movies, reading, crossword puzzles and watching the Mummers Parade. Mrs. Hamlett leaves a warm afterglow for her children; Debbie Reed, Bonnie Hamlett, Judy & her husband Nicholas Loscalzo, James, Patti Hamlett-Curcio and her husband Tommy, Tina Hamlett and the late Janice Hamlett. She is the proud grandmother of 21 grandchildren, the late Jessica Lynn Reed, the late Jared Ian Mueller, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Florence was predeceased by her siblings; James, Joseph, Margaret Toman, John, Thomas, Alice Barton and William. She is also survived and will be sadly missed by Sister Jude Mary O'Donnell, IHM as well as many nieces and nephews. Ceade Mile failte (100,000 welcomes) are extended to relatives and friends to join the Hamlett families to remember Florence, celebrate the mummers strut and pay tribute to the love and laughter that had lit our days on Monday evening between 7:00 and 9:00 pm and again on Tuesday morning between 8:30 and 9:30 am at Page Funeral Home 302 E. Union St. Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Paul's Church 223 E. Union St. Burlington.
