Louis Serlenga Obituary

Louis ("Lou") Serlenga passed away on February 8, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was 85 years old. Lou was the loving husband of Barbara (née D'Ascendis), and father of four sons, Michael, Louis (Christine), Matthew (Amy), and Jason (Melissa). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren (Louis, John, Nina Marie, Carly, Allie, Matthew, Riley, Dylan, and Nicolas), brother Eli, sister Mary Field and many nieces and nephews. Lou was a lifelong resident of Burlington, NJ until 2003 when he retired to Ocean City, NJ. Lou graduated from Burlington City High School, where he played sports and was voted most athletic and most popular in his senior class. He worked for PSEG as a welder until 1973, when he purchased the Golden Moon in Mt. Holly, NJ. He was a private business owner, an active member of the New Jersey Tavern Owners Association, and a great billiards and dart player. Lou owned the Golden Moon until 2003 when he retired. Lou was beloved by his family. He spent his spare time attending their sporting, school and theatrical events, and enjoyed summer days with them on the beach. He loved doting on his grandchildren and bragging about them. He epitomized the proud grandpa. Lou was a people person. Anyone who knew Lou, a big World War II history buff, found him to be friendly, funny and loving - everywhere he went he made friends. He enjoyed monthly lunches at the diner with his old high school buddies. He was thrilled about the Eagles Super Bowl win! He also loved playing the lottery and going to the casinos with his wife. He always said that if he hit the lottery he would write a check to Operation Smile to help children born with a cleft condition, so in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Operation Smile, 3641 Faculty Blvd. Virginia Beach, VA 23453 (https://www.operationsmile.org/). Viewings for Lou will be held at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union Street, Burlington, NJ 08016 on Thursday, February 15 from 6-8:30pm and also on Friday, February 16 from 9-10:30am.
