Carmella Caruso Obituary

Carmella L. Caruso (nee Inzerma), age 89, went to see "her family in heaven" on March 9, 2018 at home in Burlington, NJ, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Aultman, PA on January 28, 1929, the daughter of Salvatore Inzerma and Domenica Milone (Margaret Maloney Venuto). She was the wife of Frank N. Caruso and they were wed on July 5, 1947 in Sacred Heart Church, Mount Holly, NJ. She was pre-deceased by her husband Frank, daughter Antoinette Marie, son Anthony G., her beloved grandson Nicholas A., her brothers Gerald and Rev. Anthony J. Inzerma, and her half-sister Lena Venuto. She is survived by her sons Frank S. and his wife Christine, Samuel N. and his wife Patricia, Nicholas V. and his wife Irene, and Joseph A. Caruso. Her grandchildren Carmella Domenica, Frank F. (Shannon), Anthony S. (Marissa), Kelly (John Addari), Nicholas (Maria), Toni (Kenneth Naprawa), Stephanie (Steven Clark), and Paula (Michael Guillot). She is also survived by great grandchildren Aaron, Logan, Angelina, Gianna, Mia, Kyle, Noah, Braydon and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was a Crossing Guard for the City of Burlington for over 40 years, and her smiling face and hearty laugh could be heard daily at the Samuel Smith School for many years, first on Elm Avenue and then on Farner Avenue crossing three generations of children who she so fondly referred to as "my kids". For her devoted and meritorious service, she received several awards to include a Congressional Appreciation Award, several awards from the City of Burlington Common Council along with a proclamation signed by the Mayor and Council. She served many years as a shop steward for the CWA representing the guards. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Neptune, Fire Company #5 marching in many parades and attending the annual Fireman's Convention in Wildwood. She was also part of the Neptune "Rocking Chair Ladies" and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary #79. Carmella was a proud mother of a military family. She supported the Soldiers of the New Jersey National Guard from the 1-114th Infantry Battalion and the 50th Brigade Infantry Combat Team as part of the Family Readiness Group from 1999 to 2007. She was given several awards for her participation and support. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Paul Church, currently the Parish of St. Katherine Drexel and attended mass services faithfully at both St. Paul and All Saints Church in Burlington. She was a member of the St. Katherine Drexel Altar Rosary Society. Carmella was the last of the "Elm Avenue Women" and over many years watched over all the kids in the neighborhood, as if they were her own. Many of them still consider her their second mom. She was known to many as "Ma" and "Grandmom". She enjoyed sitting on the porch on Elm Ave in Burlington and Denver Ave in Wildwood Crest, word search games, bingo in her younger years, loved watching and praying the rosary with Mother Angelica on EWTN, and watching Fox News. Mom made the best fried meatballs and gravy on Sunday mornings and friends and family would come to eat meatball and gravy sandwiches after church; her house was always open to friends and neighbors. Her kind, caring, and forgiving personality can never be replaced. She was truly "Una Bella Mamma Italiana". The family would like to thank Dr. Maro, Nurses, and Home Health Aides from Acacia Hospice who gave her excellent care during her short illness. Friends and relatives are invited to her viewings and funeral Mass. Viewings will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 15, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Friday, March 16, at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, at St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington. Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville Road, Burlington. Donations may be made in her memory to Parish of St. Katherine Drexel 223 East Union Street, Burlington, NJ 08016 or Acacia Hospice 902 Jacksonville Road, Burlington, NJ 08016.
