Laura T Costello

Laura T. Costello, formerly of Burlington NJ, passed away peacefully Monday, December 24, 2018, at St. Anne's Retirement Community, Columbia, PA. where she resided for the past 5 years. She was 89 years old. Laura was the wife of the late Arthur J. Costello to whom she was married for 62 years. Born and raised in Burlington, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Hazel McFadden. She graduated from St. Paul's School, Burlington NJ and Cathedral High School, Trenton NJ (class of 1947), and was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Burlington NJ. Gifted with a beautiful singing voice, Laura attended Julliard School of Music in New York. She sang in St. Paul's Catholic Church choir for many years. Laura worked for several years at Gregory's Department Store in Burlington NJ where her favorite job was decorating Christmas trees during the holiday season. A dedicated homemaker, she loved the simple pleasures of her life, one that was filled with love and laughter. Together with her husband Art she enjoyed numerous vacations to destinations including London, Las Vegas, Montreal, and Hawaii, summers with the McFadden Family in Seaside Park NJ, and an annual trip to Sebago Lake in Maine visiting Art's cousin Richard Costello and wife Melissa. In her spare time Laura enjoyed planting flowers in her yard, working on various home improvements, knitting, cross stich, quilting and craft-making. Her children and grandchildren were recipients of her various quilts, blankets and Christmas ornaments made with patience and love over the years. Family gatherings were an especially enjoyable pastime. Christmas being her favorite season, she enjoyed the family Christmas dinner and the annual Costello Christmas tree judging contest and was a faithful viewer of the Mummers Parade every New Year's Day. St. Patrick's Day was another special holiday. Laura loved her Irish heritage. She enjoyed playing cards as well as her numerous trips to Atlantic City Casinos and Williamsburg VA with her sisters and would love to tell everyone the details of their many "winning" adventures. Laura leaves behind family and friends who will fondly remember her. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon, wife of James Hoover of Lancaster, PA; her son, Thomas, husband of Susan (Schuettler) of Lumberton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Anna Brewer of Burlington, and Marie Lewis of Rumson NJ as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, December 28th, and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, December 29th at Page Funeral Home, 302 East Union Street, Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29th at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, 223 East Union Street, Burlington. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville Road, Burlington. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Anne's Retirement Community for the compassionate care extended to Laura over the past two and a half years.
