Mary Severi Obituary

OBITUARY Mary Luigia Severi Mary L. Severi, 93, died July 13th, in the Samarition Hospice Center in Mt. Holly. She had battled multiple medical issues for ten months. Prior to her decline, she was very active. At age 92 she purchased a new car. Born in Burlington City to Michele and Elodia D’Elena, she grew up in a large household including four siblings, aunts and uncles and many cousins. They crammed into a three story row house. She told of sharing a bed with her cousins. Having lived through the Great Depression and WWII, she was frugal regarding herself, but very generous with her family, which was of paramount importance to her. She graduated in 1942 from Wilber Watts High School in Burlington and attended Rider College in Trenton. In 1948, she married Fulvio J. Severi whom she had known since elementary school. They were married for 64 years. They were excellent ballroom dancers and enjoyed dancing to big band music. She was a lifelong member of The Presbyterian Church of Burlington. Having deep religious faith, she enjoyed regularly attending Sunday services. She received her fifty year pin from the Beverly Maqueda Chapter #276 of the Order of the Eastern Star having joined in 1947. Early in her career she held a series of secretarial positions: U.S Employment Service, McQuire Air Base, Herman Belopolsky Attorney, Rohm & Haas engineering department, Kaiser Metal Products, Inc. and Lower Bucks County Hospital. For 22 years, starting in 1968, she was employed with the Burlington County Vocational-Technical High School, first working in the main office and then as the administrative assistant to the superintendent. There she developed continuing friendships with some of the students and coworkers. Being the youngest of five siblings, she learned to cook from her Italian mother. Later she learned other Italian recipes from her Italian mother-in-law. She incorporated all of these recipes in a cookbook which she passed down to her son, Bob. Cooking for her family was very important to her and she excelled at it. She enjoyed reading cookbooks and watching cooking shows on TV. As the family historian, she had a wall full on photo albums of family pictures going back to her youth. She meticulously delineated the family genealogy of both herself and her husband. Wife of the late Fulvio, she was also predeceased by her siblings: Lawrence, Tina, Herman and John. She is survived by her sons, Mark and Robert, his wife, Suzanne, and three grandchildren, Kristen, Adam and Brian Severi. A viewing will be held at 2:00pm on July 20th at The Presbyterian Church of Burlington, 300 Mill Road, Burlington Township, NJ followed by church services at 3:00:pm. Immediately after the service, interment will be held at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington, NJ. Contributions may be made to The Presbyterian Church of Burlington at the address above.
