Sadie Rooney Obituary

Sadie Rooney, nèe Keller, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the age of 96. Sadie was an accomplished seamstress, crocheter and knitter known for her creative ability. She enjoyed being involved in the activities of her four children while raising them and served as a troop leader for the Cub Scouts and the Girl Scouts encouraging her children to be involved in giving back to their community. She enjoyed ice and roller skating, square dancing, traveling and the joy of visits from her extended family as the family grew in later years. She was an avid baker whose Christmas cookies were once valued as a gift by family and friends and in later years her Lemon Lush was an "expected" dessert for any family gatherings. She had once been employed as a cafeteria worker at NADE in Bordentown and enjoyed the people she worked with and met there. Sadie was the 8th of 9 children raised by a strong Mother during the Depression years. Those challenging formative years shaped her into a strong willed, determined woman who faced life's difficulties with courage. Her self-sacrificing spirit benefited her family, and others. It is those qualities that continue to influence the lives of her family. As she neared the end of her life, she was visited and attended to by family around the clock. She stated "I was fortunate to be so loved." Sadie was preceded in death by her Mother, 5 sisters and 3 brothers, and the love of her life, James Francis Rooney who was a lifelong resident of Burlington NJ. They were married for 64 years. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Dennis) Silage, her son Kenneth (Karen) Rooney, Michael (Sandy) Rooney and Tim (Linda) Rooney. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren: Marisa (Eric) Miller, Matthew (Wendy) Silage, Erin Rooney, Fionna (Zachary) Rinaldi, Maura Rooney, Heather Rooney, Rachel (Ryan) Church, Leah (Mark) Zulli, Jessica Church, Ian Rooney, Trevor (Cveti) Rooney, Caitlin (Dave) Mazowski, Eamon (Heather) Rooney, Jaimie Rooney, Nick Campbell and 20 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Barbara Rooney and many other nieces and nephews on the Rooney and Keller sides of her family.
