Alice Melton Obituary

Alice Cecelia McKeown (Melton)

April 2, 1929  -  February 10, 2025

Alice “Nanny” was born in a house on Stacy Street in Burlington, New Jersey on April 2, 1929. Her father was John Jay McKeown who was born in Ireland. Her mother Daisy Bell Thompson was born in England. That combination was evident as Alice displayed a strong will and was a fighter all her life until the Lord took her home this year.

She was one of eight siblings and grew up in the depression era that became part of the greatest generation according to many historians. Alice joined the community of factory workers at an early age in textile mills, and assembly lines in manufacturing plants. During the war she worked at the Redwings plant assembling airplane components. Later on she worked at Joseph Titone & Sons textile plant and ran the special machines day after day.

Alice was full of energy and enjoyed dancing and met a young man who was equally talented and the two were inseparable. So on February 2, 1945, at the age of 15, she married Floyd Frank Melton and started a family of their own. They were blessed with six children, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. Besides raising a large family, she helped her husband start a automobile repair business which evolved into a top notch remanufacturing facility for government and industrial customers worldwide.  In August 1998, after 53 years of marriage, the Lord called Floyd to his eternal home. While the family did all it could, nothing could fill the void and fix Alice's broken heart, but then she showed her strength and prayed every day to be re-united with her sweetheart. The Lord answered those prayers this year. She had to endure the horror of 9/11 and a pandemic like none other in modern history. The family continued to grow and Alice witnessed the birth of five great great grandchildren. The Lord answered her prayers on Monday as she died peacefully at home surrounded with a loving son and his family by her side.

She is predeceased by her parents John Jay McKeown and Daisy Bell (Nee: Thompson) McKeown, her loving husband Floyd Frank Melton, along with her siblings: John, Eddie, Mary, Sara Elizabeth, Dolores, Pauline, Theresa Marie McKeown, and her children: John Floyd, Wayne Bruce, his wife, daughter in law Joan Webb, and her grandson Wayne Melton III.

She is survived by her sister: Kathleen Downs, and her children: Floyd Lee Melton (Eilen Reinhardt), Alice Mary Melton (Paul W. Mitchell), Deborah Lynn Melton (Edward S. Klusman), Diane Daisy Melton (The late Bill Grover) and John Floyd’s wife,  daughter in law, Nadine Romaine. She is also blessed and survived by her loving grandchildren: Robert John, Richard Wayne, John Joseph, Jennifer Lynn, Linda, Wayne, Susan, Lorena Lynn Melton, Paul W. Mitchell Jr, Jason, Dianna Mitchell, Edward S. Klusman Jr, Mary Jane Klusman; and great-grandchildren: Ashley, RJ, Cody, Paige, Brooke, Skyler, Riley, Hailey, Zenya, Carter, Scarlette, Sorelle, Holden, Tyler, Josh, Kalie, Elizabeth, Christina, Austin, Gabriel, Mackenzie, Madilynn, Macie, Mikayla, Vinnie, Luca, Sienna, Matthew, Peter, Mark, Ariel, Victoria, Caleb, Keegan; and great-great grandchildren: Maddox, Madie Jo, Marina, Macklin, Sofia, Robert III, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Alice will be reunited with her beloved Floyd and a graveside Committal service at Laurel Hill Cemetery to be held on Wednesday , February 19, 2025 at 11am by Fr. Jerome of St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Paul’s RC Church.
