Carol Ann McConomy passed away on May 26, 2025, at the age of 82. Born at home in Burlington City, on May 26, 1943, to her parents, James Sexton and Irene Sexton (nee Rogers). She had a beautiful family consisting of Joseph R. McConomy Jr. (Darlene), and her grandchildren, “the loves of her life”, Erin M. Finter (Tim), Jonathan R. McConomy (Amelia), and Kristen A. McConomy, as well as her late daughter, Jacqueline Marie McConomy.
Carol was one of two sisters. She is survived by her sister Catherine M. Meredith, who was married to the late Rich Meredith. Her absence will also be felt by her niece Denise, and nephews Ricky, Scott, and Jeff, who all affectionately called her “Aunt Sue”, as well as numerous friends and extended family.
She was stubborn, but also loving, relentless, and extremely giving.
When she was not spending time with her family, she was working at Fidelity Bank & Trust, and its successors, as a bookkeeper and teller for her entire professional career.
Although she never made it across the pond, she had lifelong dreams of visiting Ireland, Scotland, and Italy. She enjoyed looking through picture books of her dream destinations and watching the Riverdance specials, Two Fat Ladies, and Lidia’s Kitchen on PBS. Ohh, and we can’t forget her love of Lawrence Welk & Tom Selleck!
In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her fellow residents of Burlington Manor, playing Bingo, watching movies, and taking many bus trips to the Jersey Shore. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren to Chuck E. Cheese or bowling for a fun date. She never met a food she couldn’t put ketchup on. When needing time to herself, you could find her sitting out by the river in the cold weather, watching the tide ebb and flow.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital Memorial Fund established in Carol's honor by following the link below and cards can be sent to the family at 208 Meadows Lane NE, Leesburg VA 20176.
