Charles "Chuck" Woods Obituary

Charles “Chuck” Walter Woods, age 81, of Burlington Township, passed away Friday, May 7, 2021.  Born July 31, 1939 in Joyner Community, Tennessee, to parents Luther and Myrtle Woods, Chuck grew up living a simple life. Throughout grade school and on through high school, Chuck played basketball and football. One of his favorite sports was baseball, but the Central Bulldogs did not have a baseball team at that time. He went on to join the Army after high school where he served for 6 years, including his deployment in Korea. He obtained the rank of E5 (sergeant) and was a qualified bulldozer operator. While in the service, he met and married Thelma; they spent their years together raising their family in both Tennessee and New Jersey.  After the Army, Chuck, or as he was known, “Rebel”, worked as an industrial mechanic for over 30 years, where he served as Union president for about 25 years. In his time outside of work, Chuck was a coach and umpire to the children who played baseball for the Burlington Township recreation department. He knew baseball like the back of his hand. But once his family started growing, he put all that aside to attend every sports game and memorable milestone of his grandchildren; “Grandpop”/ “Peepop” never missed a single one.  Chuck not only loved playing and coaching sports but loved watching sports, too. He was an avid fan of Philadelphia sports teams and the biggest University of Tennessee fan in the northeast. He could always be found spending time outside and enjoyed the free time he had working in the yard, fishing, and hunting.  Charles is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Thelma (Maute) Woods; devoted father and grandfather to Gary (Lori) Woods and their children Alyssa (fiancé Joseph DiPasquale), Shelbi and Garrett; Kathy (Michael) Ragomo and their daughter Sophia; and Daniel (Michele) Woods and their sons Tyler and Zachary; brother of Jean (Woods) Justice of Georgia. He will be remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends throughout Tennessee and New Jersey.  At the request of his family, a small private service will be held for immediate family only. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Burlington Township Recreation Department.
