Christopher Manosis Obituary

Christopher Louis Manosis, 65, of Cinnaminson, NJ, passed away on November 6, 2024. Born in Philadelphia on December 12, 1958, Chris was the beloved son of +Connie and +Phil Manosis and brother to his late sister, +Stephanie. He spent his early years on Louden Street in Philadelphia and was a graduate of Olney High School, class of 1977.  Chris worked as a file clerk with the IRS on Roosevelt Boulevard for 22 years, retiring in 2008.

Chris’s faith was central to his life, and he was a devoted member of St. John Chrysostom Albanian Orthodox Church in Philadelphia, where he was tonsured as a Reader in 2016. He attended the Divine Liturgy faithfully and knew the Liturgy by heart. Chris helped to train a generation of Altar Servers and was so proud to be able to use his knowledge to help others learn how to serve the Church. Though difficulties with his health prevented him from attending a ceremony to commemorate it, Chris was to receive the Herald of Saint Constantine and Saint Helena---conferred upon select Laymen who have distinguished themselves in service to their local parish.

A proud and devoted member of the Aqua String Band, Chris participated in the Mummers Parade for many, many years, sharing his talents on the saxophone as he traveled and performed with friends. His love for Philadelphia extended to its sports teams, and he was an avid fan of the Phillies, Eagles, and Flyers, cheering each on with unshakable loyalty.

In addition to his church and band, he was an enthusiastic collector of Matchbox cars, a hobby that brought him much joy (and thousands of cars!) over many years. He also loved to watch classic movies on the Turner Movie Channel and TV series such as Friends and Will and Grace. He had quite the DVD collection!

Chris lived with his cousin, Joseph R. Urquhart, on Cottage Street in Philadelphia for 13 years before moving to New Jersey. He soon dubbed himself a “Jersey Boy!” He embraced life fully and left behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and dedication to his family and friends.

Although his immediate family and all of his aunts and uncles have predeceased Chris, he is survived by many cousins, fellow parishioners and friends who will mourn his death and remember the kind person that he was.

A funeral service for Chris will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, 6:00pm, at St. John Chrysostom Albanian Orthodox Church, 237 N 17th St, Philadelphia, PA 19103. Through the generosity of our good friends and neighbors at the Catholic Basilica we are able to park in their parking lot, located directly across the street from St. Johns. There will be reception in the church hall immediately following the funeral service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John’s.  https://stjcaoc.org/donate/
