David William "Bill" Baird Obituary
David William (Bill) Baird of Burlington City passed away May 10, 2026, at his residence at the age of 88. Born and raised in Burlington City, Bill remained a lifelong resident. He was a graduate of Burlington City High School, where he played flute, piccolo and piano in the school band. He attended Rider College and Temple University earning a degree in engineering and electronics technology. While at college, Bill was a DJ for the school radio station because of his deep voice, an attribute that also served him well as a member of the choral society of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Burlington. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s and served as the director of the choral society for over 50 years. He was also an accomplished chimer for St. Mary’s ringing the bells for more than 50 years. In fact, after the church fire in 1976, Bill climbed the bell tower as soon as the fire was extinguished to try the bells to make sure they were not damaged by playing “Onward Christian Soldiers”. Professionally he worked as an engineer for PSEG in Moorestown until his retirement. It was at public service that a conversation with a follow employee led Bill into the world of investing, a talent that lead to much success in the markets, both personally and as the treasurer of the Friendly Institution of the City of Burlington, a position he held for many years. Bill was also a member of the Rotary Club of Burlington, and the Beverly Riverside Lodge #107 F&AM. He served as chairperson on the Burlington City Land Use board and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Trenton Savings Bank in Burlington. He assisted his wife Betty, volunteering to teach children of migrant workers’ computers in Burlington County. In his limited amount of free time, Bill enjoyed watching westerns on TV, he was an avid gardener and train collector. He also enjoyed boating with his wife Betty, spending as much time as possible on their boat, the “Betty Boop” which was docked at Curtin Marina. Two things he will be remembered for are his intense listening skills and deep love for his wife of 48 years, Betty. He is predeceased by his parents, David Emerson and Martha (nee Jones) Baird, and his beloved wife Elizabeth “Betty” F. Baird (nee Frake) who passed in September of 2025. He is survived by his daughters Alisa (Jim) McGuigan, Melanie (Leona Ryan) Cliver and Susan Cliver, his grandchildren; April (Andy), Tommy, Sara, Jimmy “JP”, Brogan, Sam (Gloria) and Charlie (Ayme). He is also survived by his great grandchildren; Dahlia, Emma, Logan, Jaime, Peyton and Tiana. A viewing for Bill will be held, Friday May 29th from 6-8pm at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St. Burlington. Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Saturday May 30th at 10 am in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 145 W. Broad St., Burlington. Interment will follow in the churchyard. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Friendly Institution of the City of Burlington, PO Box 700 Burlington, NJ 08016 would be appreciated.
