Dorothy Honeywell Obituary

Dorothy Alice Honeywell (nee: Farrell), a resident of Edgewater Park, NJ for 65 years, passed away peacefully in her home on January 3, 2023. To most of her friends, Mrs. Honeywell was known as “Dottie”. However, to her family, she was always “Maga”, a term coined by her eldest grandson, who couldn’t quite pronounce “Grandma”, when her began to talk.

Born of February 22, 1926, Dottie was born and raised in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. In June of 1944, Dottie married her best friend and soulmate, Carlyle Laing Honeywell, Sr. In 1947, they welcomed their first and only child; a son, Carlyle Laing Honeywell, Jr. After living in Philadelphia for the next 10 years, the family moved to Edgewater Park, New Jersey in 1958.

Upon moving to Edgewater Park, Dottie became the first female crossing guard for the township in the Old Capital Hill Development. She was a long hand bookkeeper by trade and worked for many area auto dealerships over the years including: Bill Duke Chrysler/Plymouth, Canton Ford, Community Oldsmobile, Barlow Chevrolet, Robinson Oldsmobile, Walt Smith Automotives, and Sud Weist Auto, before retiring after many years at the age of 93.

As an active Masonic family, Dottie joined the Order of Eastern Star of New Jersey, Beverly Maqueda, Chapter 276, in 1962. She was an active member until the day she passed away, and was excited to hear that she would be receiving her “60 Year Pin” to recognize her for 60 years of devoted service to the chapter. During her 60 years, Dottie held many positions with the organization, including, Worthy Matron. Dottie was also a parishioner of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Beverly, New Jersey.

Through the years, Dottie enjoyed attending special dinners, BBQ’s, and other social events hosted by the various organizations in which she was a member, spending summers in North Wildwood with her family, and day (or late night) trips to Atlantic City. For the past 20+ years, Dottie could be found operating the snack bar at the Burlington Coin Shows at the Masonic Lodge #32, where she met many new friends. She could also be seen strolling down the aisles of Big Lots, Boscov’s, and other retailers looking for the best deals. Dottie loved frequenting her favorite local fast-food spot for breakfast or lunch especially Burger King!

Dottie was predeceased in her death by her loving husband of over 63 years: Carlyle Laing Honeywell, Sr, her parents; Theodore and Florence Farrell, her brothers: Theodore Farrell and Robert Farrell and her sister Virginia Muhlig(nee: Farrell).

Dottie is survived by her devoted son and best friend, Carlyle Laing Honeywell, Jr. and his wife Kathleen, her grandson Carlyle Laing Honeywell, III and his wife Tricia, her grandson Kurt Robert Honeywell and his wife Mallory, great-grandchildren: Caraline Lee, Carlyle Laing, IV, Anna Kathleen, Charlotte Rae, her brother Gerald R. Farrell as well as many cherished nieces, nephews and special friends.

A Memorial Service celebrating her life as well as an Eastern Star Service will be held at the Masonic Lodge #32, 2308 Mt. Holly Road (Rt.541), on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 11am.  A Life Celebration Repass will follow services in Lodge.
