Ernest R. Schroeder of Burlington City passed away Wednesday August 11, 2021 at his residence after a lengthy illness. Ernie was born in Mt. Holly to the late Ernest O. and Viola May (nee Hammell) Schroder. He was a lifelong resident of Burlington and had retired as the supervisor of housekeeping for the Masonic Home of NJ. Ernie provided many years of dedicated service to the residents of Burlington City and surrounding communities as a life member of both the Mitchell Fire Co. and the Endeavor Emergency Squad. As a member of the Mitchell, he served the company in many positions throughout his career, including Vice President and Assistant Chief. In 1994 Ernie served as the Chief of the City of Burlington Fire Department. In addition, he was a life member of the Burlington City Exempt Firefighters Assoc., the Burlington City Relief Assoc. and the Burlington County Fire Chief’s Assoc. In his spare time he enjoyed going to the shore, fishing and watching sports. Ernie is survived by his wife Martha (nee Cramer), his sons Ernie, Jr. and Dustin; his grandchildren Ernie, III, Lisa, Grace and Jackson; his brother Ronald VanSciver; his sister in law Terri Miller; brother in law Bill (Ruby) Cramer; his nephews Ron (Katie) and Chris VanSciver, Eric Cramer and Bryan and Corey Miller. A memorial visitation for Ernie will be held from 10am-12 noon Saturday August 28th at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Interment will be held privately.
