Fred Schmitt of Burlington City passed away Tuesday May 4, 2021 at his residence. Born in Long Branch, NJ he grew up in Seneca Falls, NY and was a longtime resident of Burlington. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had worked for many years as an air quality control technician for the NJ Department of Environmental Protection. He also worked for the local election board for many years. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed spending time reading to the children at the Boudinot Elementary School in Burlington City. He also enjoyed traveling, especially the trip he took across Europe and the time he was stationed in Japan during his military service. He will be remembered by all who knew him as a very friendly and outgoing person. He would always strike up a conversation with someone, be it a passerby as he was sitting on his porch or someone at the beach, he was always talking to someone. He will also be remembered as one who was a jokester and that he always had a smile on his face. Fred was predeceased by his wife Kathryn (nee Gaffney) and he is survived by his daughters Sandra and Suzanne, his grandchildren Joseph and Eric and his great granddaughter Riley. A viewing for Fred will be held Monday May 10th from 10-11am at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Graveside funeral services will be held 11:45am Monday at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Jacksonville Rd., Burlington. Messages of sympathy may be sent to his family through www.pagefuneralhome.com
