Howard R. Caruso, Sr. of Burlington City passed away Tuesday January 19, 2021 at his residence at the age of 79. Born in Mt. Holly, NJ to the late Lawrence and Louise (nee Paltos) Caruso he was a lifelong Burlington resident. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, serving his country honorably and earning the following medals among others; Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Vietnam Service with Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon. Upon returning from Vietnam, Howard continued his public service by becoming a member of the City of Burlington Fire Department as a member of the Niagara Hose Co. No. 6. He was employed by the Construction Labor Union Local 172, from where he retired. In retirement, he stayed busy by working for the Bristol Auction in Bristol, PA. He was also an avid fisherman. Howard was a life member of the Niagara Hose Co., a member of the NJ State Exempt Fireman’s Association, the City of Burlington Exempt and Relief Associations, the Burlington VFW Post 1817, the American Fishing Club and a life member of the Endeavor Fire Co. Auxiliary. He was predeceased by his daughter Jeanne Caruso and his siblings Lawrence, Jr., Louise Fowler and Carl “Gene” Caruso. He is survived by his wife Kathleen (nee Hullings), his sons; Howard, Jr. (Linda), Rusty (Donna) and Bruce , his grandchildren; Ryan (Alexa), Dylan, Andrew, Alyce, Madison, Annalise, Lori Ford, Leonard Willitts Jr. and Eric Willitts, his great grandchildren; John and Jason Lambing. He is also survived by his siblings; Anthony Caruso, Betty Smith, Doris “Dolly” Victorine, Janet “Sis” Leomi, Mary Garon, Rosalee Alcott and his beloved four legged companion Willow. A walkthrough viewing will be held from 10am t0 12 noon Saturday January 23rd at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Funeral services will be held 12:30pm graveside in Odd Fellows Cemetery 4527 US Rt. 130, Burlington Twp. Face coverings and social distancing will be required for all events.
