Joseph Fitzgerald, Jr. Obituary

Joseph E. Fitzgerald Jr.

Proud son, brother, uncle, father, grandfather and US Army Veteran passed away peacefully on Friday, July 23, 2021 after a brief illness.

Joe was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He spent most of his life in Burlington, NJ, leaving only to serve his country during the Vietnam War. He was extremely proud of his service in the US Army and dearly loved this country. After serving in the Army he went to work at Conwed Bonded Fibers in Delanco, NJ for almost 30 years until he became disabled. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for many years. He was an avid, lifelong fan of the ponies. He knew the jockeys, trainers and owners. He was the man you wanted to follow when he was placing his bets. Although his bets were small they were most often winners. He loved scratch offs even if they turned out not to be a big winner.

Joe had an extraordinary memory. He was full of knowledge about many things and enjoyed sharing his memories and experiences.

Most of all Joe loved his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary(Nolan)and Joseph Fitzgerald Sr.; his sister with whom he lived for many years, Mary (Fitzgerald) Osborne. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Shelly Collings (Mark); his nieces, Christy Osborne (Ron) with whom he resided for the last 8 years, Theresa MacIntosh (Kyle) and Kathleen Hubbs (Rich); his nephews, Michael Osborne (Jenna) and Robert Osborne (Maria); his grandchildren, Jordan Corson (Jess), Justin and Jacob Collings; many cousins and grand nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to those who cared for and supported him during his final days.

A brief prayer service will be held at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union Street, Burlington at 11:00am on Thursday, July 29, 2021. A viewing will be held from 9:30 until the time of the service.
