Joseph McTamany Obituary

Joseph Anthony McTamany of Burlington, passed away on March 13, 2024 at the age of 73. Born in Philadelphia, he attended and graduated from Cardinal Dougherty High School, Class of 1968. During his time as a member of the CDHS Marching Band they were recognized for their talents. This would afford them many accolades for their success. They were invited to the Vatican to play for Pope Paul IV, Lyndon B. Johnson’s Presidential Inauguration in 1965 and they won the World Music Championship in the Netherlands in 1966.  Former Philadelphia girl, Princess Grace Kelly of Monaco, was responsible for housing the students and chaperone’s during their stay. This started Joe’s journey and loved of music. He developed his skills and music writing, even penning a piece for the Pope’s visit. Joe went on to West Chester to earn a degree in music and began his teaching career. He taught at Birdsboro High School before his retirement from teaching. Joe had love for cars and before his teaching career he went to Philadelphia Tech to become a car mechanic. He did this for a few years, but the music bug was too strong. After his teaching retirement, he went on to work for Holman Dealerships in the leasing division called A.R.I. Here, he found his Love and married Iwona (Nee: Lason) in 1993. He leaves to cherish his memory Iwona, and many family members in Poland, his brother John (Paula) McTamany, niece Meridith Park; nephews: Patrick, Colin (Devin); and his great-niece and nephew Jones and Juniper Park.
