June Fay Grooms Cugliotta Harmon of Burlington City passed away April 14, 2025 at Samaritan Hospice in Mt. Holly at the age of 89. June was born in Mt. Holly on August 28, 1935 to the late Mary E. Grooms O’Farrow and the late Joseph Cugliotta. She was also the step-daughter of David O’Farrow, whom she loved dearly. She grew up in Burlington City, where she attended the City Public Schools, graduating from Burlington High School, Class of 1953. During her high school years, June was a member of the basketball team and was a member of the “Teenettes” club. She was also first runner up for Miss Burlington City during the tricentennial of Burlington City in 1952. June loved her church, the Presbyterian Church of Burlington and over the years she served as an Elder, Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, assistant secretary and memorial fund treasurer and in any other way she could help. The Presbyterian Women chose her as Woman of the Year and Mother of the Year. She was also a member of the Soroptimist International of Burlington County, the NJEA and the Friends of the Library Company of Burlington. June was employed by the Federal Government for 35 years. She headed the Selective Service Burlington County Local Board No. 6 for 25 years. During this time she appeared as the witness for the government in many trials of “draft dodgers”; the most notable was the trial of Dr. Benjamin Spock in Boston, MA which drew worldwide news coverage. During her years of federal employment she was celebrated in the Congressional Record and received many accolades. Upon retirement from the federal government, June began working for the Burlington City Board of Education, She worked for a total of 18 years, first in the high school guidance office and then at the Boudinot Elementary School. Her love for the children and staff showed in many ways and her many acts of benevolence were endless. June was far from “well-off” but would give her last dollar to help purchase school lunches, clothing, trips; these were but a few of the kindnesses shown. She ran a catering business with her friend Rhoda Pons for many years providing food for parties for singer Beverly Sills, Carl Reiner and NJ Aquarium to name a few. She also worked for H&R Block for 15 seasons. Her daughter June and granddaughter Alyssa were the joy of her life and brought a happiness that words could never express. She was very fond of her son in law Mike and for the first time in her life touched a dog, actually two-Charlie and Pebbles. June loved to sew and cook especially her meatballs and chocolate chip cookies were favorites.
June is predeceased by her husband William Allison Harmon, Jr., her sisters Olga Jean Grooms Catlett and Joan O’Farrow Warren, Carol O’Farrow, her brother David O’Farrow and her sisters in law and brothers in law, Valerie O’Farrow, Bette Harmon, Elwood Harmon, Edgar Harmon, James West and Edward Catlett. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter June Allison DePonte Sernak, son in law Michael Sernak, and the love of her life, granddaughter Alyssa Danielle DePonte (fiancé, Michael). She is also survived by her dear sisters and brothers; Selden (Brenda) Grooms, Cynthia King, Joyce West, , Mary (Luis) Rogers, Kathleen Griffin, Yvonne Hodge, Michael O’Farrow, her sisters in law and brothers in law; Carol Harmon, Gladys and Alvin Doe as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends Gloria Meredith and Susan Zott that were extended family to her. Her family, extended family and many friends meant so much to June. A viewing for June will be held Friday, April 18th from 6-9pm and Saturday, April 19th from 9-10am at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home Saturday at 10am. Interment will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, 4527 US Rt. 130 Burlington.
