It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Kathleen “Kitty” Marie Birkett, who died on Thursday, April 30, 2026, at the age of 76. Kitty was born on November 10, 1949, and was a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, niece, mother, grandmother and friend. Kitty was the daughter of the late David W. Birkett and Mary R. (nee Teahuey) Birkett. She was predeceased by her brother David F. Birkett and his son David J. Birkett, and by her brother and sister-in-law Thomas R. (Lynda) Birkett.
Kitty grew up on her family’s farm in Burlington Township and proudly acknowledged that the Birkett descendants called Burlington their home for over 167 years. Kitty fondly remembered spending long summer days playing with farm animals and being able to sample the multitude of fruits and vegetables picked fresh daily.
Kitty was a graduate of Burlington Township High School as well as the Medical College of Pennsylvania’s Nursing Program. She completed the Healthcare Administration Bachelors Program at St. Joseph ’s College in Maine. Kitty worked at Wills Eye Hospital, later to become Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience, for over 35 years as their Nursing Supervisor. She was dedicated to the healthcare profession, and she found great fulfillment through her career as a Registered Nurse. Kitty also worked as an expert witness and clinical consultant to the legal profession in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
In her spare time, Kitty liked to garden, craft, and practice reiki. She most enjoyed get-togethers with her friends and spending time with her three grandchildren.
Kitty was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Burlington City. She was involved in several different aspects of parish life, for many years serving as the Chapter President of St. Mary’s Daughters of the King (DOK).
Kitty is survived by her daughters Janice Bovankovich and Amy (Randy) Ancharski and her grandchildren Lauren Marie, Randall, and Carolyn Ancharski; her niece Heather Marie (Josh) Miner with son Alexander; her sister-in-law Barbara Birkett; her niece-in-law Sokha Birkett with sons Jonthre and Joseph; her nephew Thomas P. Birkett; her nephew Jamie (Amy) Birkett and their children Tyler, Emmett and Elizabeth Kathleen; along with a host of loving cousins. Kitty will be deeply missed by family, friends and former co-workers, and all whose lives she touched.
A Requiem Eucharist for Kitty will be celebrated in St. Mary's Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 9th, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Churchyard. In lieu of flowers, donations in Kitty’s memory can be made to St. Mary’s Episcopal Church at 145 W. Broad St. Burlington, NJ 08016.
