Kathryn (Lavdas) Stratis

Kathryn Stratis of Columbus, New Jersey, beloved wife, mother, yiayia and big yiayia, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2022, at the age of 93 years.  Born to Peter and Liberty Lavdas in Cleveland, Ohio on August 29, 1928, she graduated from Berea High School in 1946. She later moved to Burlington, New Jersey, where she met and married Nick J. Stratis on July 20, 1947.

She remained a homemaker for her entire life raising three daughters and one son. After her husband’s retirement she moved to Vero Beach, Florida where she was active in the community and the Greek Orthodox Church. She and Nick moved back to New Jersey after more than 20 years in Florida. Nick preceded her in death, at the age of 97, on this same date 9 years ago. She was a member of St. George’ Greek Orthodox Church, Hamilton Township, New Jersey where she was a member of the choir.  She also taught Sunday school, was a member of the Philoptohos Society and always volunteered for the famous Greek Festivals.

She is survived by three daughter, Liberty Papacristos and husband Hercules, Marsha Vrettos and husband Zanni, Margo Stratis and husband Chris, son John Stratis and wife Barbara, eleven grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren and multiple God-children.

Funeral services will be held at St George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Road, Hamilton Township, Mercer County, NJ 08619, Saturday April 9, 2022, visitation 10:00 AM with services with burial at 11:00 AM burial to follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Burlington, New Jersey.
