L. Michael Rahilly Obituary

L. Michael Rahilly was born December 30, 1956 and passed away September 20, 2024 with his family by his side. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and pop-pop. He was the eldest son of the late Leo M. Rahilly, Jr. and Shirley L. Rahilly (nee Challender). He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Cheryl Ann Rahilly (nee Molineaux), daughters Lauren Elizabeth Rahilly Wolicki (Brian), Jennifer Lynne Rahilly Hanish (Sam) and Lindsey Marie Lucas (Sean), grandchildren; Greyson Michael Lucas, Willow Ann Lucas, Henry Leo Hanish, Aurora Darling Hanish, Bryce Joseph Lucas. He is the son-in-law of George L. Molineaux, Jr. and the late Carol D. Molineaux (nee Snyder). Michael is also survived by his four brothers; Bryon (Kathy), Kevin (Michelle), Timothy (the late Jeanette) and Sean (Jennifer) in addition to many nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Edgewater Park, Michael attended the public schools there and in Burlington City. Afterwards, he was a student at Rutgers University studying history. He was a longtime resident of Eastampton which he loved and where he served on the Planning Board, the Economic Development Committee and Township Council.

Michael’s first career for 16 years was in the nuclear power industry, working as a radiation protection technician and training instructor. His second career was as a railroader. He spent 20 years with NJ Transit as a conductor, locomotive engineer, training instructor and rules examiner. In addition, Michael was a lifelong railroad modeler, which was his passion. He was also a Mason since 2003.

Michael was a fighter, having battled cancer numerous times, two strokes and a devastating accident in 2017 which left him a tetrapeligic. As one of his doctors said, he confronted his hardships with strength and grace. He was always grateful, loving his family, friends and life, appreciating everyday as a gift.

Friends and family are invited to attend his viewing at the Masonic Village Chapel, 902 Jacksonville Rd., in Burlington on Sunday September 29th from 1-2:30pm. Services will begin at 2pm. Afterwards, attendees are invited to a luncheon onsite at the Masonic Village of Burlington. Services following cremation will be private.
