Obituary

Lester R. Smith of Burlington, passed away on September 12, 2023 at the age of 75. Born in Mt. Holly, he was a lifelong resident of Burlington who served his Country Honorably during the Vietnam War in the United States Marine Corp. After the war he began his working career as a diesel mechanic for Lester Fellows Trucking. Smitty was a Volunteer Fireman with the Endeavor Fire Company and served as Chief of the Fire Department at one time. He was the Commander of the VFW Post 1817 of Burlington and enjoyed driving his Corvette and watching NASCAR.

Son of the late Russell and Blanche Gauntt Smith, he is survived by his son Lester, Jr (Jen) Smith; grandchildren: Lester, Dallas, Ashley, a brother Russell Smith, Jr., "Smitty" a niece Traci, a nephew Steve, his former spouse Frances, his life partner Carol Hughes and his dog Buddy. A viewing for Smitty will be held at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union Street, Burlington, NJ 08016 on Friday, September 15, 2023 from 9-10:30am. A service will be provided the USMCL Burlington County Detachment with burial to follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rt. 130, Burlington.
