Maria Stepien Obituary

Maria (Mary) Stepien of Burlington Township, NJ passed away on February 18, 2025.  Maria was born on May 1, 1956 in Giedlarowa, Poland.  She is preceded in death by her husband Jan Stepien and her parents Ignacy and Magdalena Gut who lived in Poland and then moved to the United States.  She is survived by her sons Paul Stepien and David Stepien and her four sisters Emily Szekalski, Lottie Wroblewski, Theresa Montes and Tosia Gut, as well as her many nieces and nephews.

Maria had started her life in Poland but moved to the United States at an early age.  She lived her early life in Brooklyn, NY and went to school there.  Later, on a trip to Poland she met her husband Jan and they moved to the United States.  They bought a home in Brooklyn, NY where they had two sons Paul Stepien and David Stepien.  They then moved to Lehigh Acres, Florida where they lived for 10 years.  There were many good times that were had in Florida, especially with family who would drive from New York to visit.  Eventually, Maria and her family moved to Burlington Township, NJ where Maria lived the rest of her life.  Maria worked for several companies in New York, Florida and New Jersey as a bookkeeper.  The last company that she had worked was at Burlington Coat Factory in Burlington, NJ.  She retired and spent the rest of her years with her husband Jan.

Maria had several hobbies including dancing, cooking, stamp collecting, shopping and gardening.  She would go to different Polish dances with her husband Jan where they would dance for hours.  Maria won several dance contests where they would see who would ‘do the twist’ the best.  She would cook different foods from Poland and the United States and her favorite to cook were golabki’s, lasagna, pierogies and kluski.  She would spend hours making the pierogies, kluski and golabki’s from scratch which she would share with the neighbors.  She would spend hours shopping looking for the right gifts that she would give the family for their birthdays or the holidays.  When gardening, she had a natural green thumb and would often just effortlessly throw the seeds on the ground and with some water the plants would grow easily for her.

Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing at Page Funeral Home in Burlington, NJ on February 27, 2025 from 8:30-10:30am.  Afterwards, there will be a funeral mass at 11:00am at St. Paul Church in Burlington, NJ.  After the mass she will be driven to Doylestown, PA to be laid to rest at Our Lady of Czestochowa Cemetery.
