Mary Joan (Zeisloft) Appleton

Mary Joan Appleton (nee Zeisloft) peacefully went to sleep surrounded by her loved ones on Monday August 26, 2024 at Cooper University Hospital, Camden. Mary was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a longtime Burlington resident. She was the owner/operator of The Barber Shop in Burlington for fourteen years. After selling the business she began working for the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado as a manager of the barber shop. She and her husband Joseph relocated to Colorado and built a beautiful home there in which they resided for twenty five years. While in Colorado they enjoyed their time there including spending time at the casinos up on Cripple Creek. Mary retired at the end of 2021 and they returned to Burlington in early 2022 to be closer to family. She will be remembered as someone whose door was always open. She took care of everyone with a kind ear to listen and the biggest heart to love. Mary was the youngest of five siblings, she was predeceased by her parents Gordon and Margaret (nee Pelot) Zeisloft, and her brothers Richard and Gerald Zeisloft. She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Joseph Appleton, her daughter Heather Appleton, her grandchildren; Janae, Treshaun, Trent, Jr. and Tremaine. She was a loving Gigi to Preston, Tremaine and Aubrie. She is also survived by her brothers Ronald and Kenneth Zeisloft as well as several loving nieces, nephews sisters in law and brothers in law. Over the years she enjoyed her labrador retriever dogs all of whom were like children to her and they held a special place in her heart. A viewing for Mary will be held Tuesday September 3rd from 8:30-10:30am at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday in St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
