Mary DiRienzo Carpenter, 96, of Mount Laurel, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on November 20th, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones.
Mary was born on March 3, 1928, to the late Carmela and Sebastian DiRienzo. A cherished daughter and lifelong resident of Burlington City, NJ, she graduated from Burlington City High School. In May of 1950, she married her late husband, Robert L. Carpenter, Jr. and together they had two children. Mary enjoyed a successful career, serving as the Vice President of Burlington Savings Bank for 30 years before retiring. Later, she and Robert moved from Burlington to Port St. Lucie, FL, while also spending time at their home on Long Beach Island.
In her later years, Mary moved to Mount Laurel, NJ, where she found joy in a variety of hobbies, including crocheting, cross-stitching, and playing Bridge and MahJong. She was a devoted Phillies fan, often watching their games, and loved spending time playing card games with her family. Mary could frequently be found doing crossword puzzles, with her beloved cats, Chase and Shayna, by her side.
Mary had a warm and vibrant spirit. With a sharp wit, a generous heart, and a kindness that touched everyone she met, she had a way of making others feel special. She loved deeply, with a heart that knew no limits. Social and outgoing, Mary enjoyed sharing stories and making new friends wherever she went. Above all, she was proud of her Italian heritage and treasured her family more than anything else.
Mary was predeceased by her parents Carmela and Sebastian DiRienzo, husband, Robert L Carpenter, Jr., brother, Vincenzo DiRienzo, and sisters, Natalie Yansick (nee DiRienzo), Vincengina DiRienzo and Jeanne DiRienzo.
She is survived by her son, Robert L Carpenter, III, daughter-in-law Mentana Carpenter and daughter, Jacquelyn Carpenter. She is also survived by her former daughter in-law, Gail Carpenter, loving grandchildren, Danielle Murray, Bobby Carpenter (Emily), Scott J. Schultz, Jr. (Phil), Sebastian Carpenter (Kim), Erika Schultz, Patrick Carpenter, Gregory Carpenter, and great-grandchildren, Henry Carpenter, Addison Murray, and Declan Murray. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Burlington County animal shelter.
A visitation will be held Monday, December 2nd at Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St. Burlington, NJ from 10:15-11:15am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held following at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington at 11:30am. After Mary is laid to rest, a repast will follow at Il Portico Ristorante on US-130 in Burlington, NJ.
