Matthew Wiesniewski, Sr. Obituary

Matthew (Matt) Wiesniewski Sr. of Burlington NJ, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on Monday, Aug. 5 2024, at the young age of 80. Born in Burlington NJ, he was the son of the late Lewis & Rose Wiesniewski.

He decided right after high school graduation he wanted to serve his country by joining the Navy. After boot camp, he was sent to Naples, Italy as a Radioman Third Class Petty Office. While there, he traveled to other countries, met Sophia Loren, met a couple Presidents, and had a ball. He sent the very last morse code message to the Navy fleet before it became obsolete. After serving, he returned to Burlington and met the love of his life. After their first date, he told his mother “This is the one”, they celebrated 56 years of marriage this past February.

Matt’s passion was carpentry, he was first and foremost a contractor/roofer and owned his own business doing just that. He was also employed as a building inspector in Burlington City for close to 30 years, before retiring in 2005. The word retirement didn’t exist in his world, he kept busy with his business and artistic creations that can be seen throughout the backyard and in the house. His ever-expanding family also kept him busy. The grandkids and great grandkids meant the world to him. He wouldn’t let anything keep him down, he repainted the kitchen and would be found fixing odds & ends around the house mere days before his passing. The whole time he would say “I have things to get done.” He didn’t want to leave anything for Jackie to worry about.

The little bit of time he did spend relaxing, you would find him at the TK Club in Burlington (where he was a past president and member for 60 years), family crabbing trips, sitting out back listening to “old blue eyes” with a little reggae & Elvis thrown in there, and cooking up some concoction in the kitchen. Baked chicken coated with mayo has become a thing in our family. He will always be remembered by his neighbors and friends for his New Years Day hotdog with Kraut delivery, his butter lamb on easter (he made the flags by hand and made sure my mom is stocked up on them), and so much more!

There will always be a huge piece of our heart missing. We will be forever grateful to have so many happy memories to share and keep his spirit alive.

Matthew is preceded in death by his sister Rosalie Tarasewicz. He is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline “Jackie” (nee James), his sidekick and best buddy Austin the dog, his sister Louise Salvati, sons; Matthew Jr. (Lisa), Anthony (Carrie), John (Kim), daughter; Angel (Jesse) Uhl. Grandchildren; Matthew III (Kate), Steven, Megan, Katelynn, Melanie, Devynn (Gage) Spagnola, Dominik, Jules, and Hunter. Great Grandchildren; River, Everhett, Graham, and Lilianna. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, too many to count, but all were loved by him.

The family would also like to give a special thank you to our “Angels” who helped us through everything this past year. Dr. Joseph Costic, John Hill, Chris Cattani, Christine Carlson-Glazer, Dr. Zeeshan Khan, Dr. Kinjal Dargan, her nurse Carly, all of our family and friends that supported us, and last but definitely not least Sarah our case worker from Samaritan and Heidi our dad’s nurse. In our dad’s own words “Heidi is family”, we couldn’t have asked for a more caring person to share our father’s and our lives during his last days.

He lived a life that’s full

He traveled each and every highway

And more, much much more than this

HE DID IT HIS WAY
