Nancy Richards Obituary

Nancy Eileen Jenkins Richards passed away Wednesday September 4, 2024 at her residence in Beverly surrounded by her family at the age of 82. She was born August 18, 1942 in Riverside to Harry Jenkins and June Jenkins Ohrenberger (Kelly). She was raised in Palmyra, NJ and attended the Palmyra School System. After graduation, Nancy traveled to California with her girlfriend and that was where she met Patrick Richards from Dorset, England. They were married in November 1966 and moved to Burlington and eventually settled in Beverly. Nancy began her working career as a telephone operator for Bell Telephone in Burlington. As she and Patrick began to start a family, she left her job at Bell to become a stay at home mother. Nancy was a council person for several years in the City of Beverly, serving as president and being appointed to the sewer authority. She then resigned to become the Clerk for Beverly City. Nancy was also the acting police clerk for the Beverly City Police Department. Later in life, she returned to being a telephone operator for Lourdes/Virtua Hospital. Nancy had a political side that led her to be the Burlington County Democratic Committee person for Beverly City. She was also a member of the Hope Hose Co. #2 Ladies Auxiliary and elected as a Fire Commissioner for the Beverly City Fire District #1. Nancy’s biggest time to shine was Memorial Day hosted at her Broad Street home along the parade route. Everyone and anyone was invited to stop in and hang out for food and drinks. She always wanted to know “what was happening” around town. Nancy could be found following the firetrucks, stopping a police officer or driving around to get the scope of town events. Later in life when the grandkids were involved you would find her at the sporting events, dance recitals, plays, proms, school dances and anything that she felt she would miss a good laugh or her grandkids time to shine. She was predeceased by her father Harry Jenkins, her mother June Jenkins Ohrenberger, stepfather Herb Ohrenberger, sister June Dallman and brothers Bill Jenkins and John “Jack” Jenkins. Nancy is survived by her husband of 57.5 years Patrick Richards, her four sons; Patrick (Roxie), Chris, Kevin (Kristina) and Sean (Sarah), her daughter Margaret, 11 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is also survived by 2 siblings Harry (Lynn) Jenkins and Michaelle Caplan D’Anna and sister-in-law Karen Jenkins. A visitation for Nancy will be held Saturday October 5th from 8-10:45 at All Saints R.C. Church, 502 High Street, Bulington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am.  Interment will be held at a later date.
