Phyllis L. Whelan (nee Gauntt) passed away Friday May 21, 2021 at the Cambridge Rehabilitation Center in Moorestown at the age of 89. Born in Burlington City, Phyllis was a graduate of Burlington City High School, Class of 1951. She was a longtime resident of Burlington until moving to Delanco. Phyllis was an avid reader and loved one of her last jobs at the Delanco Public Library. She loved Bingo and playing the slots in Atlantic City. She traveled around the United States with her husband, Jim. Her love of traveling continued with her children after Jim passed away. She visited Las Vegas, Cape Hatteras, North Carolina, Gettysburg, PA and took cruises to the Bahamas and Canada. Her final trip was with her daughters and daughter-in-law to the Grand Floridian at Disney World. She kept her friends for years and enjoyed having lunch with fellow graduates of Burlington City High School. She was a beloved mother and mommom who was the center of the family and will be forever missed. Wife of the late James T. Whelan, Jr., Phyllis was also predeceased by her parents Garett and Phyllis Gauntt and her siblings Margaret Horn, Helen Basilone, Robert Gauntt, Edward Gauntt and Harry Gauntt. She is survived by her children and their spouses; Phyllis (Joseph) Sullivan, Joseph (Margaret) Whelan and Theresa (William) Hamlin. She was the beloved grandmother of seven and great grandmother of six with one expected in August. She is also survived by her brother-in-law and two sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and other family members. A viewing for Phyllis will be held from 9:30-10:30am, Wednesday May 26th at the Page Funeral Home, 302 E. Union St., Burlington. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Wednesday in St. Paul R.C. Church, E. Union St., Burlington. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rt. 130 and Beverly Rd., Burlington. Facial coverings and social distancing are still required for indoor events. Contributions in her memory made to the Delanco Public Library, 1303 Burlington Ave., Delanco, NJ 08075 would be appreciated by her family.
