R. James LeCates, Jr. Obituary

R. James LeCates Jr. (Jim)

Jim passed away on June 9, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by their infant son Matthew LeCates, loving Mother Adeline LeCates, Sister Barbara Klein, Brothers Wesley and Albert LeCates as well as his pet cats, Sissy and Buster.

Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bobbie LeCates and children, Michelle D’Ascentis (Fred), Jennifer Bell (Michael), Nicole LeCates and Jaime LeCates (Greg DeWitt).   Grandchildren Amanda, Anthony, Mikey, Danielle, Joey, Nick, Antonio, and Ali along with 9 great-grandchildren.  Sisters, Jane Arena (Robin) and Jeanette Wahl, Special sister-in-law Debbie LeCates, sisters-in law Nancy Klauder (Tim), Kathleen Lindsey (Fred), brother-in-law Bob Leighton (Jean) along with a host of very special nieces, nephews and devoted friends. A special thank you to long-time caregiver Dr. Satti of Temple Lung Center who provided Jim the tools necessary allowing him extra loving years with his family.

Jim and Bobbie were high school sweethearts who married just out of high school.  They spent a lifetime together making sure their family was well taken care of.

Jim was very proud to have served his country giving 8 years as Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve.   Jim worked for McNeil Pharmaceutical, Paco Pharmaceuticals and PSE&G.  Jim also had his own contracting business for many years.  He was very good working with his hands and he could build or fix anything.  He was very meticulous and had a great mechanical mind.  He also served his community as an Edgewater Park School Board member.

Jim was always listening to music and stayed up with the most current tunes!  He spent countless vacations camping in the mountains with his family and extended family.  Summers were spent vacationing on Long Beach Island and canoeing in the pines.  We have many memories of picnics and special celebrations right in their own backyard.   Christmas Eve was always at their home from the time they were married.  He liked to have someone be Santa for the little ones.  Luckily he had son-in-laws that were willing to play that part.   He loved his family and they always came first.  He enjoyed going to antique stores and the Atlantic City casinos with Bobbie.  He will be missed dearly!
