Raymond Bowles Obituary

Raymond Alan Bowles went to his heavenly home on Sunday, October 13, 2024. He was born on December 8, 1937 to Raymond Priestly Bowles and Elizabeth Adams Bowles in Riverside, New Jersey.

Ray lived in Springside until 1960, moving to Burlington City. He was pre-deceased by his father, mother and brother James Alfred Bowles.

He became a Burlington City Polic Officer from Marich of 1961 until April 1, 1986. He worked for awhile at City Sports Center until 1988, then moving on to Emergency Management Building in Westampton, serving from 1988 until December 30, 2008, whereupon he retired.

While attending Burlington City High School, he became a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve in September 1955, being discharged in September 1961. He played Varsity Baseball and Football. He played baseball in the Rancocas Valley League from 1952 until 1963, with Springside, Mt. Holly and Riverside. In 1963 played with the Burlington Giants of Mercer County League, catching for that team that won State Tournament of Champions Tourney.

In 1953, he played catcher on the Little Bigger League, going all the way to the World Series, finishing runner-up to Stanford, CT.

While in the Navy, he served as a Radioman at Cinciant Fleet HQ, at Norfolk, VA and then aboard the USS Northampton, ECLC-1.

In 1963 he married Barbara Jean Neri and they had two children from this union, Deborah Phebus who lives in Illinois and Scott Bowles of Burlington, NJ.

He worshipped the Lord and held many offices and duties of service for the Lord. In 2014 he became a Chaplain for the City of Bulington Police Department.

In 1990 he married Carol Ann Jamison Winkelspecht. He welcomed his four step-children Raymond Winkelspecht of Medford, NJ, Daniel Winkelspecht of Florida, Paul Winkelspecht of Mt. Holly and Joan Barnat of Burlington. The union has 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren (including those from his first marriage.)

To Honor Ray’s Life and his commitment to his community and his faith all are invited to his viewing and funeral services. Viewing will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Life Gate Assembly of God, 1607 Jacksonville Road, Burlington NJ 08016 from 9-11am. A Funeral Celebration of Life will begin at 11am, with burial with Military Honors to follow in Monument Cemetery Veterans Section, Bridgeboro Road, Edgewater Park.
