Shirley Rubin Obituary

Shirley was born on July 25,1926 in Bridgeport, CT to parents Jenny & Max Hassan who moved to Brooklyn, NY shortly thereafter. She & Harry met outside her parent's candy store as teenagers. They married in 1946, after Harry returned from his WW2 military duties.nShirley & Harry were married for 77 years. Shirley was a loving mother to their 5 children as well as their grandchildren and great grandchildren; Carol (Mark) Cohen, Steven Rubin, David (Janice Leber) Rubin, Marcia (Henry) Gerkens, Eleanor (Max)Huckins, grandchildren; Jonathan (Stephanie Bruzenas) Cohen both deceased, Michael (Christine) Cohen, Kristin (Adam) White, Brian Gerkens, Julie Gerkens, great grandchildren Aidan Cohen, Brady Cohen, Chase Dodson and Dahlia Dodson. Shirley worked at a newspaper, Courier Life while living in Brooklyn. She loved to write, especially poetry. She was always very active and interested in health and wellness, and after a move to New Jersey, she was the office manager for a Nutritionist and Nurse Practitioner for many years. She was a warm, kind, caring person with a delightful sense of humor who loved her husband, family and friends with all her heart. She loved traveling with Harry, they took many trips all over the world. She loved playing canasta and mahjong with friends and her scrabble skills were exceptional. She volunteered at Virtua Hospital, as well as Hadassah and she and Harry volunteered to deliver mail to their fellow residents at Masonic Village in Burlington where she lived for many years until her death on June 21,2025. There will be a brief memorial service to honor Shirley on Tuesday June 24th at 2pm in the Meditation Room at Masonic Village in Burlington
