Thelma Woods Obituary

Thelma Margaret Woods, age 88, of Burlington Township, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

Thelma was born on September 28, 1936 in Riverside, New Jersey to parents George and Evelyn Maute. Being the only daughter in the family, Thelma spent a lot of time watching over her brothers as well as with her friends. In 1960, she went out bowling with a friend one night where she met Charles, who was in the Army at the time. A few months after meeting, they married and started their family in Fort Knox, Kentucky. Thelma and Charles spent their years together raising their family in both Tennessee and New Jersey.

Thelma spent her working years as a highly respected teacher’s aide, enjoying each and every student who crossed her path. In her free time she enjoyed reading books, watching sports (an avid Philadelphia Phillies fan), traveling, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. This included trips to Disney World and Last Vegas, as well as annual trips to Tennessee. She shared her love of animals with her grandchildren and often frequented the Philadelphia Zoo. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and attended every sports game and memorable milestone of her grandchildren; “Grandmom”/ “Meemom” never missed a single one! Her kindness and generosity were infectious and shine through her children and grandchildren.

Thelma is predeceased by her husband Charles Woods. She is survived by her son Gary (Lori) Woods and their children Alyssa (Joe and great-grand daughter Josephine) DiPasquale, Shelbi, and Garrett; her daughter Kathy (Michael) Ragomo and their daughter Sophia; and Daniel (Michele) Woods and their sons Tyler and Zachary; and her brothers Fred (Harriet) Maute and George Maute.

She will be remembered and her memories cherished by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends throughout Tennessee and New Jersey.

At the request of her family, a small private memorial service will be held on March 10th, 2024 (their anniversary), at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery where Thelma and Charles will be laid to eternal rest.
