Theodore "Ted" Bernhardt

Theodore "Ted" Bernhardt of Edgewater Park, N.J. passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at the age of 94. Ted was a longtime resident of Edgewater Park.  He was a loving and caring husband and father.  He is survived by his wife of 69 years Rita (nee Yonno), his son Theodore Jr. and various family members.

Ted grew up in Sommerville, NJ and was a graduate of Sommerville High School.  After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1949.  As a veteran of the Korean War, he was stationed at several locations including the naval base on the island of Guam, the naval station at San Diego, CA and onboard the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Princeton.  After his discharge from the navy, he joined the New Jersey State Police (Troup C) where he served for 31 years retiring in September of 1986 as a Lieutenant.

Ted especially enjoyed driving and over the years took many family road trips around the county, to Canada several times and also Mexico.  He even drove from New Jersey to California and back twice. He was very talented, having a number of practical skills including electrical, carpentry, plumbing and auto repair, often helping out family or friends. He took great pride in and especially enjoyed taking care of his yard.  In later retirement, Ted and Rita enjoyed many trips to the Atlantic City casinos.

When he was no longer able to drive, he enjoyed going out on errands like grocery shopping, banking or the post office with his son.  These trips often included stopping to enjoy lunch together at a local diner.  He touched many lives over the years and will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Ted's funeral services.  They will be held February 2nd starting at noon at the Mausoleum of the Apostles, Lakeview Memorial Park 1800 Route 130 North, Cinnaminson, NJ 08077.   Flowers may be sent to the family via Page Funeral Home at 302 E.
