William E. (Bill) Lucas

June 26, 1951 – August 09, 2023

Bill was born in Mt. Holly, NJ, and raised in Burlington and Mt. Holly, NJ.

He graduated from Burlington City High School, class of 1969, Burlington County College (Rowan) class of 1971 and and Drexel University, with a degree in Business Administration, class of 1976.

His last employment was as an A/P Specialist at Sungard Availability from 1982 until 2016 when he retired.

Bill was an active and devoted member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Burlington City where he performed many of the vital responsibilities necessary for the operation of the church, as well as served on a number of committees and church teams.

Volunteering and helping others gave purpose to Bill’s life. He lived to serve. In addition to all he did at BSUMC he also volunteered at Beverly Methodist Church Meals of Love, Ladle of Love at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, The Maker’s Place in Trenton, the Yellow Ribbon Organization, and other causes too numerous for us to be aware of all of them. 

One of his hobbies was walking. He belonged to several “meet up” walking groups and also did a number of charity walks to benefit various organizations.

Bill loved to travel, and, in the past traveled to England and Scotland with his siblings Betsy Grover, Ricki Lucas (deceased), and Sally Oxx (deceased) and niece JoAnn Holliday. He was also a fan of virtual tours and visited numerous sites through his favorite virtual sites. Day trips were also among the things that he enjoyed and he frequently traveled with his sisters to Lancaster, PA, Longwood Gardens and many other scenic sites within the area.

Bill was a long time member of the South Jersey Celiac Support Group and shared his knowledge, as well as his recipes, for those affected by Celiac Disease or gluten intolerance.

Bill is survived by his siblings Jim Barthmaier (Beverly) Betsy Grover, and Margie Hoffman as well as numerous loving and devoted nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents Marjorie and Wesley Lucas, and siblings Marie Neblett, Thomas Lucas, Ricki Lucas, and Sally Oxx.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to BSUMC, 36 East Broad Street, Burlington, NJ 08016 or The Maker’s Place in Trenton.

Page Funeral Home is handling the funeral. Viewing is scheduled at BSUMC on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with service to follow. Burial services will be held privately.
