Gloria Eckert Obituary

Gloria Eckert (nee Giangiordano) passed away on September 23, 2021 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania at the age of 97.  Born in Philadelphia, her family then moved to Palmyra, NJ in 1945. Shortly after, Gloria met the love of her life, Edward Eckert; they were married on July 4, 1948 and together they had six children. A longtime Burlington resident, Gloria was best in her role as a devoted wife, loving mother, homemaker and a wonderful cook. Her family meant the most to her, everything she did was for them. In 1984, after her children were grown, she took a job at the Burlington County Times in the distribution center where she retired at age 86. She loved creating many memories with her family on vacations in Surf City, NJ, many trips to Atlantic City Casinos with Ed and later to Parx Casino in Pennsylvania with her daughter, Gloria. She was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan.  She enjoyed watching all the games with her family.  She was predeceased by her parents Antonio and Concetta (nee Valone) Giangiordano. In addition, Gloria was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Edward, her stepdaughter, Eleanor Divis and son Marty in 2017 which left a void in her heart for the rest of her life. Gloria was also predeceased by seven of her loving siblings and in particular Rita Rose that to this day, we can’t tell who was more adventurous. She leaves to cherish her memory her children, whom she adored Edward Jr. (Patti), Gloria, Cynthia Geonnotti (Steve), Dorothy Szypulski (Bill) and David (Linda) and her loyal “fur baby”, Boomer.  She is also survived by 16 wonderful grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, her brother Albert as well as many nieces and nephews.  A visitation for Gloria will be held from 10-11am Monday October 4, 2021 in St. Paul R.C. Church, 223 E. Union St., Burlington.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am.  Interment will be in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at 1:30pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions made to the Lung Cancer Research Foundation in memory of Martin Eckert, Sr., 155 E 55th St # 6E, New York, NY 10022, would be appreciated by his family.
